One effective method to ‘Carry the Message’ to the alcoholic who still suffers is through the Hospitals and Institutions Committee. Volunteer members take panels into various facilities to conduct AA meetings and deliver AA literature to those who would otherwise be unable to attend a meetings.
Statement of Purpose
The Harbor Area Institutional Committee (HAIC) is a service committee
created in harmony with Tradition 9 of Alcoholics Anonymous, in existence
for the express purpose of carrying the AA message to the men and
women alcoholics confined in correctional institutions and hospitals, and is
a standing committee of the Harbor Area Service Committee. To be
effectively helpful to the inmate and patient we must necessarily be
governed by the individual rules of the hospital or institution served and
must further impose certain minimum standards upon ourselves, as well
as abide by each of the 12 Traditions.
This committee shall be autonomous but will maintain effective liaison and
cooperation with the Southern California Hospital and Institutional
Intergroup Committee.
